Lenten Hope

by Lois Siemens

In this world of questions
that trip us up like a stump on a wooded path
i hope
a hand will be there to guide your thinking

In this world of pain
that sits as heavy as water soaked laundry tightly twisted around the spinner
i hope
a hand will be there to help you free the knots

In this world of beauty
that opens our heart and spirit to joy
i hope
a hand will be there to help you count the colours

In this world of war
that paints its bruising colours on the map of our bodies
i hope
a hand will guide you to a safe and healing place

In this world of information
that slowly floods our deeper truth
i hope
a hand will be there to help dam the tide

In this world of laughter
that uproots the stuck areas of our life
i hope
a hand will be there to clap with joy

In this world of broken things
that pile into corners and drawers
i hope
a hand will be there to embrace the new designs

In this world of seasons
that mercifully present another opportunity
i hope
a hand will be there to walk beside you

In this world of bodies
that God said were created good
i hope
i hope and hope
many hands will be there to celebrate and cherish YOU.
